Radio communication is one of the oldest, but also one of the newest with rapid developments occurring almost daily. Wireless mobile communication systems constitute the fastest growing area with the global mobile communications market booming. The promise is to bring “anytime, anything, anyone, anywhere” connectivity.

The contents of this book consist of author's lecture notes on the basics of wireless mobile communication, which may not have the regular features of a standard book.

Chapter 1 Telephone Networks:  deals with the history and introduction to the telephone systems.

Concepts of mobile communication systems and detailed insight into the cellular systems are dealt in chapter 2 Mobile Communication System.

Sharing of the available spectrum for cellular communication is discussed in the chapter 3 Cellular Multiple Access Technologies.

Chapter 4 Global System for Mobiles: contains the detailed picture of the global system for mobile communication, the most successful mobile systems in 90’s.  

IS-95 standard for the CDMA communication air interface was adopted in 1993 and 1995 by the US telecommunication industry association (TIA) is discussed in chapter 5 IS-95 Systems.

Chapter 6 cdma-2000 Systems: gives an insight into cdma2000 which look towards to satisfy the requirements of 3G systems.

The need, concept, and uses of microcell is dealt with in chapter 7 Micro Cells.  

Integration between terrestrial and mobile networks is progressing to achieve global standards. Chapter 8 gives a brief account of integrated mobile communication networks.

Chapter 9 Wireless Application Protocol: deals with the basics of wireless application protocol.

 

This book has several features to make it concise, and simple to understand.
